One of the four communities (along with Canyon Country, Newhall, and Saugus) that merged in 1987 to form the city of Santa Clarita in California, Valencia is a fairly young town that occupies a section of the 36,000-acrre Newhall Ranch. Although the Newhall Land Company began developing Valencia only in the 1960's, its growth as a community has been untrammeled and quick, especially when the nearby Six Flags Magic Mountain opened in 1971.
Hailed for its mild, suburban feel, Valencia isn't a town that staggers under the weight of industrialization. On the contrary, this planned community is proud of its well-maintained boulevards and the quality of its residential areas, and the town is famous for its unique paseo system, which is composed of beautiful walkways that connect all of Valencia's 26 villages to each other, to schools, and even commercial areas.
Real estate is especially strong here in Valencia, mostly because the demand for property in this community is rather high. The affable atmosphere that Valencia maintains is preferred by many families, and the access it provides to shopping malls, restaurants, recreation venues, schools, and churches make this a favorite among house-hunters.
